On Johnny Whites first drop of the trip on July 3, 2009, he landed a new state record red porgy. Later that afternoon, Johnny took his turn on the electric reel as we were deep dropping for tilefish and barrelfish.
As soon as the weight hit bottom in about 750′, the rod bent double and he flipped the switch to bring in the largest grouper we have caught while deep dropping. This 27lb 13oz yellowedge grouper beat the existing state record for electric reel by over 7lbs and the existing rod and reel record by over 3lbs. This record was surpassed by another angler in 2010, so we are back on the hunt for this one again.
