A few weeks earlier we caught our first ever Kitty Mitchell grouper on the Possession Limit. These are more correctly called Speckled Hind. At the time, the rod and reel state record was 7.68lbs and unfortunately our fish was smaller than that.
We corrected that situation on July 8, 2011, when Robert Eschenburg Jr brought of this 13.375 Lb pig, nearly doubling the existing state record. It was Robert’s first trip on the Possession Limit, and his first ever state record fish. A few hours later he caught his first billfish as well, making this a pretty good first trip.
