During the Labor Day fishing excursion in 2004, four marbled grouper were caught by the crew of Possession Limit. At the time, the state record for marbled grouper was 10.5 Lbs. and the IGFA World Record was just over 21 lbs. During one 45 minute span, Troy Lawrence caught the first marbled grouper weighing 11.7 Lbs, then Brad Parker caught one weighing 12.5 Lbs. and finally Brad King caught one weighing 13.8 Lbs. That makes three state records in less than an hour. Since their fish had been topped, Brad P and Troy did not register their catches as state records, but Brad King did receive a state record certificate.

Twenty minutes later, after moving to another spot about a mile away, Johnny White landed one which was nearly double the size of Brad’s… 23.4 Lbs. Not only did this fish set a new state record, it also set the new IGFA world record for Marbled Grouper.

On July 8, 2006, Troy Lawrence dropped a green/chrome diamond jig to the bottom and came up with a 25.06 Lb trophy which topped Johnny White’s catch as a new State and World record. However, he made the mistake of telling Scott Anderson exactly which lure he used.

Scott bought the same lure, and one week later used it to land a 27.56Lb Marbled Grouper. Troy got a state record certificate, but never even had a chance to get the IGFA application in the mail. Scott’s fish held the state and world record for 4 years till it was finally beaten in 2010.
