7/8/11 | 31.375 Lbs | Robert Eschenburg Sr. | Electric Reel |
The most sought after deep drop fish in the Gulf is the Golden Tilefish. At the time of this trip, the state record was a 30lb 6oz stud.
We were still fishing the same area on July 8 2011 where we had just landed 4 state records, but we had yet to catch a single tilefish.
That changed…Robert Eschenburg Sr delivered a couple of tasty gobs of squid to the bottom on the Diawa Megatwin reel. He hooked up immediately, and we knew from all the moaning and groaning (coming from the reel of course) that he had a pretty big fish.
When the fish reached the surface and we saw it was a monster tile, my first reaction was to grab the scales. On the boat, it looked to be over 32lbs. At the dock, its official weight was 31.375lbs, beating the current record by nearly a pound. Robert has been there before since he caught the state record Queen Snapper on his last Possession Limit trip.
