For 20 years I got to live the dream of running a 46′ bluewater sportfishing boat named “Possession Limit”. During those years, I made many good friends and had the pleasure of taking them on trips they will never forget. My crew landed 44 officially certified Texas state records and 3 officially certified IGFA records. I personally only held two of those state records, Queen Snapper (which was broken by another angler on my boat the next year) and a 121lb Greater Amberjack, caught in 2005. That fish was the state record for nearly 15 years.
In August 2011, I sold the boat… simply had too many toys to play with and not enough time to do it all. Laurel and I were starting to really enjoy life at the Stout Ranch and wanted to spend more of our time there. The gentleman I sold the boat to renamed it the “Miss Abigal”, moved it to Clear Lake, and over the next five years only put about 135 hours on the engines.
In early 2017, one of my former fishing crew, Scott Smith, ended up buying the boat and renaming it “Blue Sky”. Thanks to Scott I once again have the opportunity to engage in offshore consulting activities, just like in the old days. We are still catching new state records, I think the count is now up to 49. An I still enjoy the frozen margaritas when we get back to the dock…
